Actually, quite
a good game for its time, when compared to games like Dragon
Warrior. FF1 is the primordial ooze of the Final Fantasy series.
In this game, there is a very basic battle system with commands
such as Fight, Item, Drink, Magic, and Run. There is absolutely no
drama in this game, being that your party does NOT talk in this
game. Also, NPCs offer only 1 box worth of text. There are no
Chocobos, there is no Cid. Spells are bought and learned by
respective classes. You may save only in inns or when you camp
outside.
However, the
challenge in this game is very high. Dungeons are long, and
usually you'll have nothing but a few potions and antidotes to
keep your party fighting. Also, everything is quite expensive,
even the potions, so you'll always be in poverty. This game is
relatively short, but it's a good feeling when you get through
with it :)
Another thing
that players may notice is the D&D elements, such as different
races. There are various peoples in FF1 such as Elves, Dwarves,
and Dragons. Actually, much of Final Fantasy is based on D&D
when you think about it. (Classes are very similar)
